Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury introduces players to the perilous environment of Roiling Roller Isle, a late-game island surrounded by deadly lava and complex spinning platforms. To earn the coveted Cat Shine associated with exploration here, adventurers must track down five hidden fragments scattered across the rotating obstacles. Mastering the physics of these moving blocks is essential for surviving the hot magma hazards below.
Tracking the First Two Shards Over Lava
The journey begins on the first long blue rotating platform, where timing your movements is critical to avoid slipping into the abyss. The first shard is floating at a low point near the middle, requiring you to ride the U-shaped bridge down to a hidden cloud platform. Grabbing it safely demands patience before returning back to the main rotating structure.
Continuing along the exact same blue block will lead you straight toward the second shard located at the very end. This collectible moves in tandem with the spinning cylinder, so waiting for the right rotation is necessary to secure it. Once collected, players can safely leap onto the next solid landing zone to prepare for the upcoming threats.
Defeating Foes and Shattering Hidden Walls
Upon reaching the intermediate safe zone, you will immediately notice a towering stack of Goombas patrolling the area. The third shard sits directly on top of this enemy formation, meaning you must defeat them to make it drop. Utilizing a ground pound or a power-up like the Cat Bell will clear the enemies out quickly.
The fourth fragment introduces a clever puzzle element located on the second set of rotating platforms where green and blue blocks meet. A wall of regular blocks conceals the collectible right in the center of the spinning blue mechanism. To breach this barrier, you must grab a nearby Bob-omb from the green platform and toss it accurately before it explodes.
Securing the Final Fragment Near the Lighthouse
The final stretch takes place on the last green rolling platform just before reaching the island's main beacon. The fifth shard floats along the side of a high platform that sits slightly farther away from the lighthouse itself. Players need to carefully run along the side of the rotating walkway to scale the height and claim the piece.
Gathering this last fragment immediately triggers the appearance of the complete Cat Shine right at the top of the tower. Having a Tanooki Suit equipped can make these final floating adjustments much more manageable for players struggling with the momentum. With all fragments collected, you can confidently finish the lighthouse trial and advance your progress through Lake Lapcat.
